BalladsA ballad is a narrative poem originally composed to be sung. There are two different types of ballads - folk ballad and literary ballad. In class, we took notes on the distinguishing features of both types of ballads. We looked at the three following poems in class as examples of ballads:

SonnetsThe PowerPoint to the right will provide a summary of one of the most celebrated forms of poetry, the sonnet. Please read through the entire PowerPoint carefully, noting the differences between the different types of sonnets.
Homework - April 24, 2012 Within the PowerPoint, you will find a collection of sonnets from Shakespeare, Donne and Browning. Please read each of the sonnets. After reading the sonnets, decipher the meaning of Shakespeare's Sonnet 18 in one paragraph. Then, repeat the process with another sonnet of your choice within the PowerPoint. Consult the notes about how to decipher meaning from a poem when completing this homework. |
